Arik is a Hindu Balinese boy aged 12 who joins soccer ministry. He had heard story about Jesus as a powerful healer from one volunteer who was also from Hindu background . He taught Arik to pray in Jesus name. It happened around 4-5 months ago. Recently, I heard he ever went to church and I moved forward to hearing more about what things he learns in soccer ministry.
While enjoying fruit dessert before starting playing soccer, he shared that he learnt not only skill but also discipline and honesty. ‘I was taught not to lie.” He has been in soccer ministry for 3 years and would like to keep going although many of his friends quit due to busyness in higher level of education.
As he feels comfortable with the coach and friends in this ministry, he has more opportunity to grow in knowing Jesus thru character modelled by his coach. “Balinese has less information about Jesus and it takes some times for them to understand Jesus and salvation. That’s why building relationship is a way for us to lead them to understanding. We don’t know when we’ll see them accept Christ but we keep planting seeds,” said Kris, one of volunteers in soccer ministry.
