Dear UofN Bali base,How do you

say goodbye to people you don’t want to leave? I’m not sure, but pulling out of the base in a taxi towards the bus terminal ended up being

quite a bit harder than Robin or I had expected. Goodbyes can be hard, but I was devastated with how unprepared I was when the time came to go. You can never be fully ready, but I just simply felt like I was leaving something I wanted to stay so attached to. Who would have guessed a twenty two year old guy would cry on the bus ride out of Bali? Just shy of two weeks in Bali and we were in love…..with the people, the culture, the beach, the atmosphere, the food, the bikes….and most distinctly, the base. What a dynamic place to be visiting. So many beautiful people, so many talented, humble, and Christ-seeking believers all under one roof.

We came to the base expecting only

to want to stay a few days. A few days in and we thought about staying a week. A week in and we wanted to stay two more….God is so good. Getting a glimpse into the ministries each member is involved in….was a testimony of genuine faith. To see so many believers pushing a gospel and a faith and a servanthood to locals in prison, the slums, kids in the neighborhood, at the beach, nearby

churches, and to people all over Bali….opened my eyes. I was touched by the prayers in prison, by the eyes of the prisonmates as we sat in circles and bowed our heads to pray for forgiveness. God is working….it may feel slow, but he can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.

I wrote down more things in my journal, pieces of reflection and realizations of a relationship I want restored fully with Christ, all while living at the base. It was only possible through a God strong and creative enough to push dried up people like myself back into a state of passion and potential. God used SO

MANY people at the base in the time we were there to impact me and my heart. Whether it was a small word of encouragement, someone showing interest in my life, sharing testimonies at the table, gazing together at a beautiful sunset, laughing till our stomachs hurt, asking me if I wanted to sit in the chair next to them, being vulnerable enough to tell me a vision or sign t

hey had, insisting I come do a DTS, eating a simple meal together, praying for me, helping us make contacts for the rest of our journey in Indonesia, simply LISTENING to all that I had to say , or riding with me to McDonalds because you can never have too much ice cream……the entire base should be affirmed that God is at work and the people at your base are a powerful testimony of that truth. I have been to a few bases by now and no other base has such a perfectly balanced mix of people, personalities, and a genuine atmosphere of love and compassion and servanthood for the kingdom. Praise God for the people and the place that is YWAM Bali. You have been blessed to be a blessing and I am grateful for getting to soak that in for the time I did. Each member of the base is playing such a vital role in kingdom building and I hope each of you knows how touched I was by your prescence, even if it was just from a warm smile you gave.

I anxiously await God’s work in me still, if that somehow involves coming back to Bali someday soon, I would have no complaints. Until then, God Bless you and your stories and your hearts….please know you will be missed and you will not be forgotten.
